A note about bellies

I'm all for manners and social graces, but some white lies just don't cut it. Sometimes when I tell people how far along I am, they like to say things like "I looked like that at 4 months!" or "I can hardly tell you're pregnant!" I don't really get why people say things like this. First of all - HELLO. Look at me!

Second of all, I wonder if people are just trying to make me feel better about myself. That's nice and all, but it's really not necessary. Besides the fact that I know I look like I swallowed a watermelon and I will absolutely not believe anyone who tells me I don't look pregnant, I understand that having a baby means your stomach pokes out. And I'm perfectly ok with that. In fact, I think it's pretty amazing. So when the kids in the hospital (and we all know kids are more honest than adults) say things like "your big, huge belly is in the way!" or "why is your stomach sticking out so much?" I take it as a compliment. It means I'm growing a nice healthy baby.

  1. Ah, yes the honesty of kids. I've recently had a child tell me that I looked pregnant (when I was in my swimsuit at the pool). When I told the child I wasn't, she pointed to my belly and asked, "Then what's that?" Ugh. Time to get into a serious stomach workout routine.

Everyone is different. I will say that some people are HUGE early in their pregnancies. You definitely look pregnant there's no mistaking that. Unless of course, you have some crazy large tumor. But I think we can safely rule that out.

    You look great.

  2. oh my goodness, your so big! and yes, ive always thought it was ridiculous for pregnant people to shy away from the fact that their belly is huge. thats kind of the point, isnt it? i dream of the day when im pregnant and dont have to worry about "my food baby sticking out" or "the luther curse of our bellys always sticking out." I will totally enjoy having a pregnant belly. The postbaby belly though will probably be a problem haha. :)

im so excited to see my little neice!!

  4. I think you look as far along as you are (in that particular picture - I'm not sure about real life). I'm with you. You're SUPPOSED to have a big belly - you're pregnant.

  5. Haha, kids are funny. Do you ever get annoyed of how much attention you attract with your belly? I did. Everyday I would come home from work and report to Kyle about what customer said what about my belly. My favorite was one nice lady, who I really don't think meant to be offensive, asked me how far along I was, and I told her I still had 1 1/2 months to go and she said, oh... you're going to have a big baby! Makes you feel good inside. :) Actually, I just thought it was funny. Have you had anyone you barely know touch your belly? That's most awkward, at least for me it was.

Once the baby comes the attention will all be off of you and onto baby. :)
